Kristopher Graciale was charged with murder on Thursday, Oct. 19, and voluntarily agreed to be held without bail, the Essex County District Attorney said. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police believe Graciale attacked Nathan Mucci on Oct. 8. Paramedics found Mucci on the sidewalk of Chandler Street in Lawrence unresponsive and bleeding from a "significant" head wound. They rushed him to an area hospital, where Mucci died three days later, the prosecutor said.

Investigators said they uncovered evidence that pointed to Graciale as the killer.

Graciale returns to court on Nov. 21.

A GoFundMe created for Nathan Mucci said he was a loving and caring man who did not deserve his fate.

Nathan Mucci was the epitome of love and care, a soul who radiated kindness in every interaction. His boundless compassion extended far beyond his closest circle; he'd selflessly give the shirt off his back to strangers, not to mention the extraordinary lengths he'd go to for those he held dear. His love knew no boundaries, and his legacy is a testament to the incredible human being he was.

The campaign has raised more than $7,000 of its $10,000 goal.
